Knighthoods for actors

by Instant Noodle

The first actor to receive a knighthood was Henry Irving in 1895. This cartoon is from the period when actors were just beginning their stratospheric rise through society, to where they became cemented as the social elite, and indeed, in the US, becoming the equivalent of the aristocracy here.

At least it is a meritocracy, anyway.
