I’ve always thought it rather incredible that we know what we do about the Egyptians and other cultures that wrote on stone. How little would we know about them if they had chosen to write on tasty-to-bookworms paper? Or instead, coded their messages in packets of electricity stored on easily-rustable metal disks?
Maybe aliens will visit after the extinction of mankind after all the books and computers have corroded away, and, seeing no recorded evidence of our intelligence, assume that mankind pretty much returned to the trees after the hey days of the Egyptians.
Just a thought.
