Movember is over. Shame, really.

(Mr Punch has been rather lacklustre with naming this character.)

I’m rather a fan of a good bushy moustache. On other people, that is. So I was very pleased when I heard about the Movember movement. In particular, Stephen Fry has never looked better. At least, since his Melchett days, anyhow.

Stephen Fry is also responsible for this factoid from QI, namely that by 1854 it was mandatory for European troops of the East India Company’s Bombay army to sport a moustache, and most regiments followed suit. So, most British males you see in Punch from this period to the First World War tend to have moustaches.
